PoliLaPP, in collaboration with SAMM and LAC, performs diagnostic activities and laboratory tests aimed ad defining the causes of corrosion of components in exercise.
The diagnosis activity involves the following phases:
- evaluation of operating conditions
- collection of information regarding the history of the corroded element
- characterization of the corrosive attack: morphology, type, entity
- definition of the corrosion causes
- indication of repair and protection systems
Several analyses can be performed on the corroded component, including:
- chemical analyses (supported by the facilities of the LAC laboratories of Politecnico di Milano)
- optical and scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffractometry, laser profilometry, scanning probe microscopy, and glow discharge spectroscopy GD-OES (supported by the facilities of the SAMM laboratories of Politecnico di Milano)
